About the Role
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Fire Strategy Assessor to produce, develop, review, and validate fire strategy documentation for a wide range of buildings across the UK. This role ensures that fire precautions, building design, and management procedures comply with current UK legislation, guidance, and best practice, including the Building Regulations, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and relevant British Standards.
Key Responsibilities
· Produce, review, and update comprehensive fire strategy reports for new builds, refurbishments, and existing premises.
· Assess building layouts, construction materials, fire protection systems, and evacuation strategies.
· Provide professional guidance regarding compliance with:
o Building Regulations (Part B)
o BS 9991, BS 9999
o Approved Document
o Fire Safety Act 2021 & Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022
o Building bulletin guides
o HTM codes
· Liaise with architects, building control, and responsible persons to advise on fire safety solutions.
· Carry out site inspections and surveys to verify fire safety provisions and identify non-compliances.
· Prepare clear, evidence-based recommendations to improve fire safety and ensure legislative compliance.
· Support design teams with fire strategy elements during planning, design, and construction stages.
· Provide technical input during fire risk assessments or fire safety audits where required.
· Maintain accurate documentation and ensure consistent record-keeping for audit and regulatory purposes.
· Keep up to date with changes in UK fire safety legislation, standards, and industry best practice.
Essential Skills & Experience
· Proven experience as a Fire Strategy Assessor, Fire Engineer, Fire Risk Assessor, or similar fire safety professional.
· Strong understanding of UK fire safety legislation, building regulations, and design standards.
· Ability to produce high-quality written fire strategy reports with clarity and precision.
· Experience interpreting architectural drawings, building plans, and specifications.
· Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
· High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
· Proficiency with relevant software (e.g., CAD viewers, fire modelling tools—advantageous but not essential).
Qualifications (desired but flexible depending on experience)
· Degree in Fire Engineering, Building Surveying, Construction, or a related discipline (preferred).
· IFE membership (GradIFE/MIFireE) or similar professional accreditation.
· Fire engineering or fire safety qualifications such as:
o Level 4 Fire Safety / Fire Risk Assessment
o CFPA Diploma
o NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate (as a baseline)
· Demonstrable CPD in fire safety and building compliance.
