We are now seeking an experienced leader to take on the role of
Head of Department (Air Quality)
, an opportunity to shape strategy, drive growth, and lead an established, respected team into its next phase of development.

The Opportunity

  • Lead a team of air quality specialists delivering projects each year, from rapid advisory work to major programmes exceeding £250k.
  • Build on a solid foundation of £1.4m annual turnover and a strong, loyal client base that includes Shell, National Highways, HS2, Tata Steel, and others.
  • Drive strategic growth in both the UK and international markets.
  • Position RSK as the recognised global leader in Air Quality Consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clear leadership, mentoring, and direction to a high-performing technical team.
  • Set and deliver strategic business plans, budgets, and performance targets.
  • Oversee business development activities, identifying and pursuing new growth opportunities across RSK's network and external markets.
  • Ensure robust risk management, financial control, and project governance.
  • Represent the Air Quality discipline at divisional and group leadership level, contributing to broader strategic decision-making.
  • Support R&D activities and maintain compliance with relevant regulatory and financial frameworks (including RDEC coordination).

About You

  • Proven experience in a senior management or departmental leadership position within environmental consultancy or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong strategic and commercial acumen, with a record of business growth and client development.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and develop teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of air quality consultancy, regulation, and sector trends.
  • Confident engaging with senior stakeholders, clients, and business leaders.
