Job Purpose:

To provide professional supervision, guidance, and support to social workers and practitioners, ensuring high-quality practice in all areas of children's social care. The Practice Supervisor will promote excellent standards in safeguarding, assessment, and intervention, particularly in complex child protection cases and court proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide reflective supervision and professional guidance to a team of social workers, ensuring effective case management and decision-making.
  • Oversee complex child protection cases, offering professional oversight and ensuring timely, proportionate, and child-centred interventions.
  • Support practitioners in preparing and presenting reports, statements, and evidence for court proceedings.
  • Maintain high standards of practice in line with statutory requirements, local procedures, and best practice guidance.
  • Quality-assure assessments, care plans, and reports to ensure they meet professional and legal standards.
  • Promote a culture of learning and continuous improvement, identifying training and development needs within the team.
  • Work collaboratively with partners and multi-agency professionals to ensure effective safeguarding and service delivery.
  • Provide professional leadership, acting as a role model and promoting the organisation's values and principles.
  • Deputise for the Team Manager as required, contributing to service planning, performance monitoring, and resource management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, policy, and best practice in children's social care, particularly in safeguarding and court-related
  • work.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  • Qualified Social Worker (Degree, CQSW, DipSW, or equivalent).
  • Current registration with Social Work England.Minium 5 years post-qualification experience in children's social care.
  • Proven experience managing complex child protection cases and court proceedings.
  • Experience of supervising or mentoring other practitioners (formally or informally).
  • Strong understanding of the Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and related legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing for court.
  • Ability to provide reflective supervision and promote evidence-based practice.
  • Skilled in partnership working and inter-agency collaboration.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise a demanding workload.
