Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team, responsible for providing comprehensive support to unaccompanied asylum seeking children. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in helping these children adjust to their new environment, ensuring their safety, and promoting their emotional and social well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support: Provide day-to-day care and supervision for unaccompanied asylum seeking children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Emotional Support: Offer emotional support to help children deal with the trauma and stress of their experiences, facilitating access to mental health services as needed.
  • Education and Integration: Assist children in accessing educational opportunities and encourage participation in social, cultural, and recreational activities to aid their integration into the community.
  • Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of the children to ensure they receive appropriate services and support, including health care, education, and legal assistance.
  • Development and Monitoring: Develop and implement individual care plans tailored to each child's needs, and monitor progress, adjusting plans as necessary.
  • Communication: Maintain regular communication with social workers, legal representatives, educational institutions, and other relevant agencies to coordinate care and support.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Promote and respect cultural, linguistic, and religious differences, ensuring an inclusive and supportive environment for all children.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Keep accurate and detailed records of each child's progress, incidents, and any other relevant information, providing reports as required.

Qualifications

  • Education: GCSE/ A-Level's preffered
  • Experience: Previous experience working with vulnerable children, particularly unaccompanied asylum seekers or refugees, is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with children.
  • Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by asylum seeking children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Background Checks: Enhanced DBS check (or equivalent) is required.

  • Availability: 40 hrs per week with ocasional on call weekends.
