Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Deputy Manager to join our Residential Care Children service for young people aged 8 to 18. This role requires strong leadership skills and experience in working with vulnerable young individuals, including those with mental health needs, learning disabilities, or at risk of homelessness. The Deputy Manager will assist in overseeing the daily operations of the service, ensuring a safe, supportive, and person-centered environment while maintaining full compliance with Ofsted regulations and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Service Manager in the overall management and operation of the supported accommodation service.
  • Supervise, support, and develop a team of Support Workers, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Oversee and contribute to the development and implementation of individualised support plans, promoting independence and personal growth.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safeguarding policies and procedures, creating a safe and supportive environment for young residents.
  • Monitor residents' well-being, conducting assessments and reviews in collaboration with external agencies, social workers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with budget and resource management to ensure the service operates efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records related to resident progress, incidents, risk assessments, and staff performance.
  • Conduct regular staff supervisions, performance reviews, and appraisals, ensuring adherence to best practices and professional development.
  • Liaise with families, local authorities, education providers, and other stakeholders to provide holistic support for young people.
  • Support staff in handling crisis situations, implementing appropriate interventions when necessary.
  • Promote an inclusive, respectful, and empowering atmosphere for both residents and staff.
  • Ensure full compliance with Ofsted regulations, health & safety requirements, and other relevant legislation.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within supported accommodation, social care, or a similar setting.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and Ofsted regulatory frameworks for young people's services.
  • Experience working with vulnerable 16-18-year-olds, including those facing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance misuse.
  • Ability to develop and implement personalised support plans that promote independence and well-being.
  • Excellent people management skills, with the ability to motivate, support, and develop staff.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with young people, staff, and external partners.
  • Knowledge of housing-related support, tenancy sustainment, and welfare benefits is advantageous.
  • Relevant qualifications in social care, youth work, or housing support (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Health & Social Care, or equivalent) are desirable but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in using care management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A compassionate, proactive, and resilient approach to managing complex situations.
