As a Site Engineer, you'll play a key role in the successful delivery of our civil engineering projects across Scotland. Working closely with our Project Managers and site teams, you'll be responsible for setting out, providing technical input, and ensuring works are completed safely, accurately, and to the highest standards.

This is a hands-on role that combines technical expertise with practical problem-solving. You'll support the coordination of design and construction activities, liaise with clients and subcontractors, and help drive project progress on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow the company's Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) systems and carry out duties in line with the SHEQ Management Manual and related documentation.
  • Represent the company courteously and professionally, promoting a proactive and collaborative approach to good working relationships.
  • Review and understand tender and contract documentation.
  • Carry out all survey work and setting out associated with site works.
  • Operate, maintain, and secure all setting out, IT, and other hardware; ensure servicing, maintenance, and calibrations are completed as required.
  • Keep accurate field records of surveys, setting out stations, and other markers installed.
  • Ensure surveys are completed efficiently and prior to areas being covered up.
  • Produce sketches, drawings, and supporting documentation as required.
  • Carry out sampling, monitoring, and testing on-site.
  • Liaise closely with colleagues and subcontractors to ensure smooth coordination of site activities.
  • Support your line manager in controlling site costs efficiently and within the project cost plan.
  • Assist in preparing valuations and processing subcontractor payments.
  • Monitor plant and labour productivity, raising issues with your line manager if outputs fall below expectations.
  • Monitor material deliveries and report any quality or delivery issues.
  • Report promptly any matters affecting project progress or commercial performance.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of resources and site events as instructed by your line manager.
  • Be aware of project planning and commercial performance, attending site management and progress meetings as required.
  • Maintain site files and records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Liaise regularly with your line manager and communicate effectively across the team.
  • Take responsibility for your personal development, seeking guidance or training before undertaking unfamiliar tasks.
  • Support the development and training of colleagues under your supervision.
  • Attend company-arranged training courses as required.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role and level of competence.

Skill, Knowledge, & Experience

  • HNC/HND or a degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience working on civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of site engineering techniques, surveying, and setting out.
  • Proficient in the use of total stations, GPS, and associated software.
  • Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements on construction sites.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Organised, detail-focused, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to work on sites across Scotland.
