About Aberdeen Laundry Services
Aberdeen Laundry Services (ALS) is a leading provider in the commercial laundry industry, dedicated to delivering high-quality laundry solutions whilst prioritising sustainability and community engagement. Our mission is to integrate environmentally friendly practices into every aspect of our operations, ensuring that we contribute positively to the environment and society.
We are a forward-thinking business, committed to continuous improvement and operational excellence. Our current focus includes delivering on our net zero strategy and fully optimising our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to support data-driven decision-making and sustainable business growth.
As we look to the future, we are fostering a culture of strategic, solution-oriented leadership. We value individuals who can think beyond routine operations, contribute innovative ideas, and play an active role in shaping the future direction and success of our business.
Is this role right for you?
We're looking for a strategic thinker who leads with curiosity, collaboration, and practical problem-solving. You might be someone who's built deep expertise through years of hands-on work in industrial or process environments, or perhaps you've been progressing through engineering leadership roles and are ready to step up to a more strategic position.
What matters most to us isn't a perfect CV - it's your approach. Do you naturally look for better ways of doing things? Can you balance the detail of operational challenges with the bigger picture of business strategy? Are you energised by developing teams and building systems that make everyone's work more effective?
Maybe you've spent 20+ years in the laundry industry and know the equipment inside-out but haven't had the opportunity to move into senior leadership. Or perhaps you've led engineering teams in manufacturing, facilities management, or other process-driven sectors and are looking for a role where your experience will be genuinely valued.
If you're someone who thrives on variety - moving between strategic planning, hands-on problem-solving, and developing your team - and you're motivated by the challenge of driving real operational improvements across multiple sites, we'd love to hear from you.
At Aberdeen Laundry Services, we believe the best leaders are those who keep learning, stay solutions-focused, and bring their whole selves to work. If that sounds like you, this could be the right next step.
Role Summary:
The Chief Engineer will lead and coordinate all engineering activities across multiple Aberdeen Laundry Services sites. This senior role acts as the key point of contact for both the site engineering teams and the engineering administrator. While elements of the role can be carried out from home, it will require regular site presence, strong leadership, and proactive communication to ensure engineering excellence across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead, develop, and mentor Engineering team across all company sites
· Act as the main point of contact for all site engineering leads and the engineering administrator
· Oversee and standardise the use of the CMMS system across all sites, ensuring accurate data input and reporting
· Analyse CMMS data and other engineering reports to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement
· Support and oversee major projects, including equipment installations, upgrades, and site improvements
· Liaise closely with the Group Operations Manager to align operational activity with strategic business goals
· Participate in capex planning, budgeting, and long-term asset management
· Be available to provide senior engineering leadership and support during critical incidents, including outside normal working hours if required
· Maintain high standards of safety, compliance, and engineering best practices across all locations
What We're Looking For:
Essential:
· Relevant professional experience
· Strong leadership experience in multi-site engineering management
· A clear, confident communicator
· Expertise in CMMS systems and using data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement
· Strong project management experience and strategic thinking
· Ability to work independently with flexibility for both site-based and home-based work
· Hands-on mindset, capable of balancing operational support with senior management responsibilities
· Driving License
Desirable:
· Experience in industrial laundry, production, or process-based environments
· Experience working with steam and pressure systems
· 18th edition electrical qualification
