This is an exciting opportunity for a
BPSS Cleared
Architect to work at the forefront of digital technology. The Solution Architect will work in a cutting edge public-sector project, seeking to exploit data for the benefit of the nation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design a solution to support the maintenance of legacy UKHO digital publication systems and the development of a new platform.
  • Lead the architectural design work as part of a competitive 2.5-week bid sprint.
  • Apply domain expertise across SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea), hydrography, and navigational chart standards.
  • Shape the approach for cloud migration of critical legacy systems and contribute to technical planning.
  • Work across large, complex codebases and legacy environments to inform target-state architecture.

Required Skills / Experience:

  • Strong experience in SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) or related maritime environments.
  • Familiarity with hydrography and navigational charts (S-100 preferred; S-57 minimum).
  • Working knowledge of a major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Proven experience working with large, complex legacy systems.
  • Proficiency in at least one legacy language or database such as Java, C#, .NET 8.0, Oracle, or SQL Server.
  • Desirable: Experience with chart compilation tools, GIS platforms, or hydrographic data processing, and knowledge of S-101 (ENC) and other S-100 product specifications.
