Do you have extensive experience of working in a senior governance or democratic services and looking to take the next step in your career?
We have a unique opportunity for a Democratic Services Manager and Deputy Monitoring Officer to join our Legal & Democratic Services team at Solihull Council.
You will lead the delivery of all aspects of the Council's democratic and decision-making processes, ensuring the highest standards of transparency, efficiency, and legal compliance.
In addition, you will act as the Deputy Monitoring Officer, supporting the Monitoring Officer in maintaining the Council's governance, constitutional integrity, and standards framework.
You will have:
- Extensive experience of working in a senior governance or democratic services role within local government or a similar public body.
- Proven track record of managing democratic processes and advising on constitutional and procedural issues
- In-depth knowledge of local government law, decision-making processes, ethical standards, and statutory responsibilities.
- Experience of working with elected Members and senior officers in a politically sensitive environment.
- Experience of investigating code of conduct complaints and supporting standards functions.

Under Part 1 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, as amended by the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Consultation Act 2009, this post has been categorised as a sensitive post and is designated as politically restricted (duties related).
The law aims to ensure the political impartiality of local government staff who hold posts involving duties of a politically sensitive nature.
The post holder will be required to undertake evening meetings on a regular basis to attend, support, and advise, as well as occasional weekend commitments.
