Purpose of the Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for highly-motivated and proactive Materials Science/Materials Engineering students to join our McLaren Racing team, for a period of 13 months, that will see you contribute to our performance and expose you to how a Formula 1 team works, with hands-on experience in our Materials Engineering Group.

You need to be able to use your own initiative, learn new topics & skills, work proactively and, often, to strict deadlines in a high-pressure environment – in what are demanding but extremely rewarding roles. Internships at McLaren are a fantastic opportunity to apply yourself and act as a springboard for your engineering career.

Your placement will be in our Materials Engineering Group within McLaren Racing and will involve hands-on lab-based analysis for materials development and fault/failure investigations.

Principal Accountabilities:
We would expect the following from successful candidates:

  • Quick integration within teams to maximise effectiveness.
  • Delivering high-quality work in a timely manner, using strong time-management skills.
  • Responsibility for specific projects, with guidance and support from more senior team members.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
The following attributes are required for this role:

  • Currently studying a degree in Materials Science or Materials Engineering.
  • General computing skills and software knowledge appropriate to placement area.
  • A practical mindedness and a passion for motorsport.
  • Previous experience in engineering is desirable, but not required.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. The MTC is connected to Woking mainline station via regular shuttle buses, from which London Waterloo is a 30 minute train ride.
