Overview
We have an exciting opportunity to join Birmingham City Council on the newly designed Parks and Greenspaces Service The service has been created to deliver the City of Nature Strategy and has recently helped Birmingham become the UK's first "Nature City".
We are seeking passionate and skilled Tree Officers to join our Parks and Greenspaces Development Team to complement and complete the existing team of Tree Officers. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact on Birmingham's urban landscape by managing tree maintenance contracts and promoting the benefits of urban trees across the city.
What you'll do…
Supervise and inspect tree work to ensure quality standards.
Manage tree maintenance budgets and issue variation orders or penalties as needed.
Respond to enquiries and complaints related to trees.
Promote safe working practices and ensure contractor compliance with health and safety standards.
Maintain accurate tree records and produce statistical reports.
Develop tree planting and maintenance programmes.
Conduct tree surveys and risk assessments.
Provide arboriculture advice to schools, the public, and partner organisations.
What you'll need…
Performance management and monitoring experience.
Practical arboriculture experience within a Local Authority.
Strong organisational and administrative skills.
Excellent communication and networking abilities.
Ability to work independently and manage emergency situations.
Knowledge of Health & Safety procedures.
Experience preparing reports and statistical data.
Willingness to work unsociable hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Qualifications
Level 3 qualification in Arboriculture or equivalent work-based experience.
