Football & Church Web Designer - Volunteer

London, Greater London, United Kingdom New Level Academy Full time

Help redesign our football and church websites to improve communication, visibility, and community impact. Use your web design skills to create clean, modern, user-friendly sites that support young people, families, and our wider mission. Flexible and remote.

What difference will you make?

Our organisation serves diverse groups — young people in education, families in the community, football participants, and church members seeking support and connection. However, our current websites do not fully communicate who we are, what we offer, or how people can get involved. A redesigned website will dramatically improve how we present ourselves online, reach new people, and support those already involved with us.

For London Rangers FC, a clear, modern website helps young people and parents find information about teams, training, safeguarding, fixtures, and opportunities. It also strengthens our credibility with funders, sponsors, local authorities, and partners. A well-designed site that clearly communicates our community work, football development programmes, and educational pathways can directly support funding bids, sponsorships, and new partnerships.

For London Rangers Church, the website is a vital point of connection for local residents who may be exploring faith, looking for support, or seeking a welcoming community. A refreshed church website allows us to communicate our services, ministries, community outreach, and pastoral support more clearly, helping new people feel confident in visiting or reaching out.

A well-designed web presence also helps us streamline communication. Parents, students, volunteers, and visitors often rely on online information, and clear navigation saves our staff and team significant time responding to repeated enquiries. Updated pages also help young people access forms, timetables, safeguarding resources, and programme information more easily.

This volunteer role directly supports our mission by increasing visibility, trust, and engagement across all parts of our organisation. Even small improvements in layout, language, and content flow can translate into stronger recruitment, better communication, and greater community reach.

Most importantly, your work will help us reach young people and families who may otherwise never hear about the opportunities we offer. A stronger online presence allows us to grow, expand our impact, and continue providing education, sports, mentoring, and church support to those who need it most.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a volunteer with a practical, creative approach to web design who can help us refresh and restructure our charity and church websites. You don't need to be a professional developer, but you should have experience using platforms like WordPress, Elementor, Wix, or similar tools to create clean, user-friendly sites.

Key qualities we are looking for

  • Strong design sense – You can create a website that feels clean, modern, and aligned with our brand (blue/white football colours and simple Christian themes).
  • User-focused thinking – You understand how different visitors navigate a site and how to make things intuitive.
  • Clear communicator – You can explain layout options and design choices simply.
  • Patient and collaborative – You will support a small team who may have limited technical experience.
  • Organised and reliable – Able to work through a project from planning to completion.

Experience And Skills We Value

  • Experience designing or updating websites on WordPress, Elementor, Wix, or similar.
  • Ability to structure pages and menus in a way that is clear and logical.
  • Understanding of responsive design for mobile and tablet users.
  • Experience with basic SEO, accessibility, or website best practices.
  • Ability to create reusable templates for future updates.
  • Knowledge of integrating forms, event listings, donation links, or embedded media.
  • Ability to recommend improvements without overcomplicating the build.

Nice To Have (not Essential)

  • Experience designing websites for charities, churches, or sports clubs.
  • Understanding of safeguarding pages or compliance sections.
  • Ability to improve images, icons, or graphics.
  • Knowledge of simple automations or plugins that reduce staff workload.

The ideal person enjoys practical, impactful projects and likes helping small charities create tools that make a real difference. You will succeed in this role if you are

  • Creative and thoughtful in your design choices.
  • Comfortable working independently.
  • Friendly, open, and happy to share ideas.
  • Someone who cares about faith-based and community-focused work.
  • Motivated by helping organisations serve people better.

By using your design skills, you will help us present our football, education, and church work with professionalism and clarity — ensuring our message reaches the young people, families, and community members who need us most.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a volunteer to help design, update, and modernise our websites for London Rangers FC and London Rangers Church. These sites serve different purposes — one focuses on football, community, and youth engagement, while the other supports our church activities and outreach — but both need a consistent, professional, user-friendly design.

Your main responsibility will be to refresh the layout, navigation, and visual structure of both websites using WordPress/Elementor. This includes improving the homepage, organising content, adding key sections (church ministries, football fixtures, safeguarding, donations, events), and ensuring both sites look cohesive under one brand.

Key responsibilities

  • Audit both existing websites and recommend improvements.
  • Create updated layouts, menus, landing pages, and templates.
  • Improve accessibility, user flow, and mobile responsiveness.
  • Add or redesign pages for church ministries, community work, football teams, and youth programmes.
  • Integrate forms, contact pages, event listings, and donation links.
  • Create a simple structure that staff can update without coding.
  • Provide a short handover guide for continued maintenance.

Deliverables

  • Two refreshed websites (or sections), aligned with our brand.
  • Clean, easy-to-update templates.
  • A simple guide for staff use.
