We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant / Barista to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting both our food and drink kitchen operations.

The job will be 37.5 hours, 5 days per week, spread over Mon-Sat (we are closed Sundays and Bank Holidays)

The job is a varied role within our 2 storey Coffee House on Fleming Square (there are stairs so it will keep you fit)

Food Kitchen Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of ingredients, including washing, chopping, and measuring.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area and end of day cleaning.
  • Follow food safety guidelines to ensure high standards of hygiene.
  • Making sandwiches, toasties, jacket potatoes and other meals.
  • Manage time effectively to ensure tasks are completed promptly during busy periods.
  • Assist with stock management, including receiving deliveries and storing supplies.
  • Building up to eventually cover the chef's day off.

Barista Duties

  • Creating a welcoming atmosphere, taking customer orders, and offering recommendations.
  • Preparing drinks on our La Cimbali Espresso machine.
  • Grinding coffee beans into cafetieres.
  • Cleaning tables, maintain cleanliness of work areas, coffee machines & equipment and end of day cleaning.
  • Manage time effectively during busy periods to ensure timely service.
  • Handle cash transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Weighing coffee beans and loose tea in the front of the shop.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain the friendly work environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in food preparation or as a barista would be preferred but not essential as full training will be given.
  • Good time management skills to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, friendly & dynamic environment.
  • Have a passion for coffee, tea & food or a willingness to learn
  • Someone who is punctual, reliable, self motivated and works well in a small team and will happily use a mop
