The Family Wellbeing Team are responsible for providing early help support to families with children aged 0-19 years of age and to young people up to the age of 25 with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND)

The Role
North Somerset Council's Family Wellbeing Service is looking for a dedicated and experienced Family Support worker to join our dynamic team. This is your chance to be part of a service that truly makes an impact. The team you are joining is responsible for supporting families with children 0-19 who are experiencing difficulties, who has been referred through the children`s front door.
In this role, you will be providing front-line support where you will be helping and empowering families to access the support they need and connecting them with services that make a real difference. Providing brief intervention to families, using evidence-based methods of intervention to support positive change for children, young people and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessing Family's needs using the Continuum of Need
- Providing brief intervention that will empowers Families to create change.
- Acting as a bridge between families and services, offering a warm welcome and practical guidance.
- Act as an advocate, recognising that each child's journey is unique and shaped by their individual religious beliefs, faiths, values, and cultural backgrounds — and will embrace and share these differences with respect and understanding.
- Building strong relationships with community groups, professionals, and voluntary sector organisations.
- Engaging professionals to come round a family to ensure that family have an robust Early Help Plan.
- Promoting inclusive access to services and encouraging self-referrals.
- Helping shape the future of Early Help in North Somerset.
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

- 3 days in the office
- Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
- Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.

A Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (e.g., health, wellbeing, youth work, community development).
Significant relevant experience of working with children and families.
- Strong communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence in working independently and collaboratively.
- A flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends.
A commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion.
Some experience of acting as a lead professional or key worker for a child or family.
Experience of using IT systems (email, word processing & spreadsheet).
Essential Criteria:
- Direct work with families: Experience in family support, youth work, social work, or community navigation.
- Multi-agency collaboration: Experience working with local support services, community organisations, and professionals across sectors.
- Cultural competence: Experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Outcome evaluation: Familiarity with measuring and evaluating early help interventions.
- Communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively across variou

- Public sector background: Experience in public services and case management.
- Crisis intervention: Experience supporting families in challenging situations.
- Training delivery: Experience in leading workshops or training programmes.
- Behaviour change: Experience supporting individuals through change processes.
