The Role
As a
Senior Engineer
, you will play a key technical and leadership role in the deployment, integration, and support of smartmicro radar sensors and intelligent transport systems (ITS) across the UK. You will lead technical activities on-site, mentor junior engineers, and serve as a subject-matter expert for clients and project partners.
While this role is not limited to traditional traffic signal engineering, senior-level experience with traffic signals, ITS, or highways technology is highly advantageous and will strongly support success.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Engineering
- Lead the installation, commissioning, and optimisation of smartmicro radar sensors and ITS solutions on-site.
- Provide advanced technical support to internal teams, clients, and third-party installers, both remotely and in the field.
- Conduct system integration testing (hardware and software) in-house and on-site.
- Diagnose and resolve complex engineering issues during pre-installation planning and real-time deployments.
- Ensure all project work meets customer requirements, relevant standards, and agreed method statements.
Project & Client Leadership
- Serve as the senior technical representative during project delivery, coordinating with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Present solution designs, technical concepts, and system capabilities in a clear and professional manner.
- Produce high-quality engineering documentation, including manuals, technical guides, and application notes.
- Deliver structured training courses to clients and customer teams on the operation, maintenance, and optimisation of smartmicro products.
Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain the highest standards of workmanship, safety, and compliance.
- Contribute to product feedback loops, identifying improvement opportunities and supporting product development teams.
- Lead by example, supporting efficient business operations and mentoring junior engineers.
Essential Requirements
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Demonstrable senior-level experience in Traffic Signals, ITS, or related highways/transport technology.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Strong technical competence with field-based engineering tasks.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working with ITS, traffic signals, highways systems, or traffic management technologies.
- Proficiency with engineering software tools or diagnostics platforms.
- ECS/CSCS/HEA card.
- IPAF certifications: 1B, 3A, or 3B.
- Electrical qualifications (desirable not essential):
- BS 7671 Wiring Regulations (17th/18th Edition)
- City & Guilds Inspection & Testing
- Experience leading field teams or installation projects.
The Ideal Candidate
- Willing to travel nationwide, and overseas as required – Scandinavia and Ireland (including overnight stays).

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Professional, adaptable, and customer focused.
- Highly proactive with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Capable of working independently and taking ownership of complex tasks.
- Keen attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
Working Hours
- Monday–Thursday: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
- Friday: 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
- Some out-of-hours work required, with overtime paid accordingly.
