Altum Consulting are partnering with a national charity supporting vulnerable communities to seek an experienced
Interim Head of Finance
on a 9-month FTC to lead its finance function during a key transition period.

This is a pivotal role, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity and compliance of financial data, while driving collaboration, insight, and continuous improvement across the organisation. You'll lead a small team and act as a trusted business partner to senior leaders, enabling effective decision-making and strong financial stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and develop the finance team to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful reporting.
  • Oversee financial management including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with tax, VAT, and PAYE regulations.
  • Produce monthly management accounts with meaningful variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Strengthen financial controls and ensure all statutory and audit requirements are met.
  • Partner with teams across the organisation to improve financial understanding and accountability.
  • Oversee group accounting and consolidation, including the review of a trading subsidiary.
  • Support operational areas such as property, health & safety, technology providers, and GDPR compliance.

About You

You are an experienced finance leader who combines technical expertise with a collaborative, hands-on approach. You'll have a strong grasp of charity financial management and thrive on improving systems and processes.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in both management and financial accounting, with a track record of leading or managing audits.
  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong people management skills and experience developing high-performing teams.
  • Understanding of VAT, Gift Aid, PAYE/P11d, and GDPR compliance.
  • Advanced Excel and finance systems knowledge (experience with Xledger desirable).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to non-finance colleagues.
  • Proactive, analytical, and resilient, with a continuous improvement mindset.
