Job Summary

The Clinical Lead Nurse will provide strong clinical leadership within the nursing home, ensuring the highest standards of care and regulatory compliance in line with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) framework. This role involves leading and supporting the nursing team, overseeing clinical governance, ensuring best practice in care delivery, and maintaining robust quality assurance systems that align with the five CQC key questions: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led.

You will work alongside the home manager in this office based role, and you will also have the opportunity to step in to nurse shifts in event of sickness or holiday cover required.

Key Responsibilities, Clinical Leadership & Governance

  • Lead, supervise, and mentor the nursing team to deliver safe, evidence-based, person-centred care.
  • Oversee and maintain accurate care planning, medication management, and clinical documentation.
  • Ensure all care practices comply with current NMC standards, CQC regulations, and internal policies.
  • Conduct clinical audits (medication, infection control, wound care, falls, etc.) and implement action plans for improvement.
  • Manage risk effectively and lead on incident reporting, investigation, and learning.

CQC Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Act as the clinical lead for CQC compliance, ensuring that all standards and outcomes are met or exceeded.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CQC Fundamental Standards, Health and Social Care Act 2008, and relevant national guidance.
  • Support the Home Manager in preparing for and responding to CQC inspections, audits, and local authority reviews.
  • Collect and analyse quality data, contribute to governance meetings, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of transparency, safety, and accountability across the care team.

Staff Management & Development

  • Support staff recruitment, induction, supervision, and performance reviews.
  • Identify training needs and ensure the clinical team maintains professional competence.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages professional growth and teamwork.

Resident Care & Communication

  • Build positive relationships with residents, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure individualised care plans are regularly reviewed and updated in collaboration with residents and their relatives.
  • Respond promptly to concerns or complaints, ensuring they are resolved in line with company policy and CQC requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RGN/RMN/RNLD) with current NMC registration.
  • Minimum of 3 years' post-registration experience, including at least 1 year in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of CQC compliance, quality assurance, and clinical governance.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, infection control, medication management, and health & safety standards.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience within a nursing home or elderly care setting.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and leadership training.
  • Experience supporting services through CQC inspections or improvement processes.
