Who we are looking for

We are on the lookout for a Head of Compliance and UK MLRO to lead our UK compliance and financial crime framework for our UK EMI.

You'll ensure the business meets all regulatory obligations, maintain high standards of governance, and help build a culture of integrity and accountability.

This role will suit someone with strong experience in Electronic Money Institutions or payment institutions.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead and manage the compliance and AML/CTF framework in line with UK regulations.
  • Act as the main contact for regulators on compliance and financial crime matters.
  • Oversee risk assessments, internal controls, and policy updates.
  • Review and submit required regulatory reports and notifications.
  • Manage AML/CTF systems, including customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, and sanctions screening.
  • Investigate and report suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
  • Keep senior management informed of key risks and compliance updates.
  • Provide training and guidance to strengthen compliance awareness across teams.
  • Coordinate with local legal advisors, regulators, and service providers in UK, Canada, Bulgaria, and Estonia.

Experience we'd love:

  • 7–10 years of compliance or financial crime experience within an EMI, payment institution, or other regulated firm.
  • Prior UK MLRO experience is mandatory
  • Strong understanding of the FCA Handbook, PSD2, and UK Money Laundering Regulations.
  • Experience handling audits and regulatory communications.
  • Excellent judgement, communication, and leadership skills.
  • ICA, CAMS, or ACAMS qualification preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital payments and crypto assets will be an added advantage.
