We're looking for a passionate and experienced Sous Chef to join our friendly and fast-paced kitchen team at Sanders Garden Centre. As part of a trusted, locally loved destination for food and plants alike, our café is proud to serve fresh, seasonal dishes to our loyal guests — and we're growing.

This is a daytime-only role with no evening work, offering excellent work-life balance and a chance to be part of a supportive, professional team.

Key Responsibilities

As our Sous Chef, you'll support the Head Chef in delivering high-quality food and maintaining smooth kitchen operations. Your role will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of fresh, seasonal dishes
  • Leading the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence
  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety
  • Training and mentoring junior kitchen staff
  • Supporting stock control and ordering
  • Ensuring food is consistently cooked to specification and served promptly
  • Contributing to menu development and daily specials

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or strong Chef de Partie ready to step up
  • A passion for fresh food and customer satisfaction
  • Strong communication and team leadership skills
  • Ability to thrive in a busy, high-quality kitchen environment
  • A positive, proactive attitude
  • Food hygiene certification (preferred)
