Shipbuilder Integration Engineer - Submarines
Working Pattern:
37 hours (days)
Working location:
Derby (Raynesway)
An exciting opportunity for a Shipbuilder Integration Engineer role has arisen within the New Build and Components business, in Nuclear (Submarines).
The Shipbuilder Integration Team is looking to recruit an enthusiastic engineer to support the Dreadnought programme as the project progresses through the build and commissioning phases. The team's role is to provide technical leadership on a wide range of challenging propulsion plant integration activities by providing direction and focus for the Derby based engineering teams. You will act as the Rolls-Royce representative in meeting with BAE Systems and MoD and get exposure to the Dreadnought Chief Engineering Team through involvement in key engineering challenges.
What You Will Be Doing
With this exciting opportunity you will get a chance to be involved with the following:
- Lead a range of integration activities across the design, build and commissioning phases.
- Support engineering teams across the Submarines Business, influencing design solutions and resolving complex engineering challenges across the interface.
- Develop a strong working relationship with counterparts in BAE Systems to ensure that engineering information is available when needed to support the build programme.
- Develop an engineering understanding of equipment and systems across the Rolls-Royce designed propulsion plant and an appreciation of interfacing platform systems.
- Evaluate the propulsion plant spatial arrangement, support agreement of interfaces between the propulsion plant and the platform equipment/systems and resolve integration issues.
- Support maturing of the propulsion plant in BAE Systems toolsets to enable parts to be receipted in the shipyard and consumed on the build line.
Who We're Looking For
At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.
To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree, Master's or PhD in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.
- Able to build effective working relationships across boundaries and influence stakeholders in other teams or parts of the business.
- The ability to apply existing technical knowledge and experience to unfamiliar subjects in order to resolve complex and interdisciplinary issues and make a difference.
- The ability to step back and look at the bigger picture to pursue the simplest solution for all parties involved across the Submarines enterprise.
- Experience delivering engineering solutions in a customer facing environment is desirable.
Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we're all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
We are an equal opportunities employer. We're committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives which are crucial to innovation and problem solving. We believe the more diverse perspectives we have, the more successful we'll be.
