Overview
The Autism Support Technician plays a vital role in providing support and assistance to individuals with autism, helping them navigate daily challenges and enhance their quality of life. This position requires a compassionate individual who is skilled in communication and has a strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders. The technician will work closely with clients, their families, and other professionals to create a supportive environment that fosters independence and personal growth.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one support to individuals with autism in various settings, including home, community, and educational environments.
- Assist clients with daily living skills, including personal care, social interactions, and communication.
- Implement individualised support plans tailored to each client's unique needs and goals.
- Monitor client progress and report any changes or concerns to the appropriate professionals.
- Facilitate social skills training and engage clients in recreational activities to promote social interaction.
- Collaborate with families and caregivers to provide guidance and support in managing behaviours associated with autism.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress as per organisational policies.
Requirements
- Proven experience or knowledge in dementia care is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are essential for effective interaction with clients and their families.
- Familiarity with IT systems and tools for documentation and reporting purposes is required.
- A compassionate approach towards individuals with autism, demonstrating patience and understanding.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being self-motivated when working independently.
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in special education or related fields are preferred but not mandatory. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals with autism while working within a supportive team environment.
