JOB SUMMARY

Coherent, a global leader in advanced laser technology, is seeking an experienced Digital Manufacturing Engineer to drive innovation and efficiency in our world-class manufacturing facility as we continue our digital transformation. This role is ideal for a technically skilled professional with a proven track record in digital manufacturing systems, automation, and process optimisation. The successful candidate will leverage expertise in programming, databases, AI, and Industry 4.0 technologies to develop and implement advanced solutions that enhance production capability, quality, and scalability. This is a high-impact role where your expertise will directly shape the future of Coherent's manufacturing operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Design, implement, and maintain advanced digital manufacturing systems, including cobots, to improve production efficiency and reliability.
  • Apply AI and machine learning methods, including image classification, to optimise quality, cycle times, and predictive maintenance.
  • Configure, customise, and improve our Oracle Integrated Manufacturing Execution System to streamline workflows and improve data traceability.
  • Write, test, and deploy Python (and/or C#) plugins for automation, predictive analytics, and process control.
  • Optimise, and manage SQL databases to support smart tooling, data integrity, and production analytics.
  • Utilise Power BI and other visualisation tools to generate automated reports, dashboards, and actionable insights.
  • Set best practice standards working with international cross-functional engineering, production, and IT teams to drive successful continuous improvement initiatives and digital transformation projects.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, Computer Science, related technical discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven industrial experience in digital manufacturing, automation and AI/ML analytics in advanced production environments.
  • Hands-on experience with MES, ERP, PLM, SQL and process control tools.
  • Strong proficiency in programming (Python, C#) with demonstrated project experience.
  • Track record of delivering measurable improvements in production performance, efficiency, or quality.
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with industrial automation systems (e.g., PLC programming, SCADA systems).
  • Experience with IIoT for platforms for real-time monitoring and remote data collection.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics integration or cobots in manufacturing.
  • Practical experience with FileMaker.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001/13485.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a data-driven problem-solving mindset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience collaborating across global teams.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and adaptable to evolving technologies and business needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and advanced data visualisation tools.
