Metafab Structures Limited is on the lookout for a talented Designer to join our growing team. We specialise in the manufacturing of structural and architectural metalwork, and we're looking for someone who's skilled, reliable, and takes pride in their craft.

Responsibilities:

  • Create accurate 2D and 3D CAD models in SolidWorks for new components, assemblies and sheet-metal/tubular products
  • Design parts specifically suited for laser cutting, ensuring manufacturability and efficient production
  • Produce nest layouts for both sheet and tube laser cutting, optimising material usage and cut paths
  • Carry out take-offs from 3D models and PDF drawings using Bluebeam Revu
  • Prepare basic cost estimates for material usage, laser cutting time, and any subcontract finishes required
  • Maintain drawing packs, revision control and model libraries
  • Work closely with production to create and refine designs/workshop drawings and resolve any manufacturability issues
  • Support sales with design-driven insights to improve accuracy of quotations
  • Assist in the development of new products, designs and fabrication solutions for customers
  • Ensure all designs meet internal standards, tolerances, and practical workshop requirements
  • Help improve internal workflows for CAD, nesting and design processes

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong CAD design experience (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Experience in sheet-metal design, laser cutting, or steel fabrication environments
  • Understanding of how to design components specifically for laser processing
  • Knowledge of nesting software or ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings and 3D models
  • Strong accuracy, attention to detail and good understanding of tolerances
  • Comfortable with quick design iterations and responding to production feedback
  • Ability to carry out digital take-offs from models and PDF drawings
  • Good communication skills – able to work with sales, engineering and the laser team
  • Organised and methodical – able to manage multiple drawing and design tasks
