Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Workshop Manager to lead a busy sheet-metal and light fabrication workshop.

The role is hands-on and operational, managing a small team and ensuring smooth production across laser cutting, press brake work, fabrication, and general metal processing.

This is not a heavy welding or pipework environment.

It is a fast-paced laser and fabrication jobbing shop serving internal group companies and external customers.

You will be responsible for planning work, managing people, maintaining quality standards, ordering materials, and ensuring jobs flow through the workshop efficiently..

Duties

  • Workshop & Production Management
  • Plan, prioritise, and allocate daily work across laser, press brake, fabrication, and finishing operations.

Team Leadership

  • Lead a small team of fabricators, operators, and workshop staff.
  • Provide hands-on support when required.
  • Manage attendance, performance, holidays, and basic HR processes (with support).
  • Train staff on safe and correct use of workshop equipment.

Quality & Safety

  • Carry out in-process quality checks and final inspection.
  • Ensure jobs meet the required tolerances and finish.
  • Enforce safe working practices and contribute to risk assessments.
  • Ensure machinery is used correctly and safely at all times.

Materials & Stock

  • Order sheet metal, consumables, and materials from approved suppliers.
  • Keep stock organised, labelled, and replenished.
  • Manage goods in/out and ensure the workshop is always ready for the next job.
  • Ensure jobs run on schedule and are produced to specification.
  • Coordinate with office/admin to ensure job cards are clear and achievable.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, safe workshop.
  • Identify bottlenecks and adjust workflow to improve efficiency.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From £40,000.00 per year
