Position Title: Flint Sorting and Packing Operative (Picking Plant Technician)

Role Summary

We are seeking a dependable and diligent individual to join our quarry operations team. This hands-on role involves running the flint sorting machinery, assessing material quality, and preparing finished flint for storage or delivery. Due to the site's remote location, applicants must have their own transport as public transit is unavailable.

Main Duties

  • Operate flint sorting equipment in a safe and effective manner
  • Inspect and classify flint by size and quality to meet production standards
  • Remove debris and unsuitable materials from the conveyor system
  • Accurately weigh and bag sorted flint for dispatch or storage
  • Organise and stack filled bags securely for transport or warehousing
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and cleaning of machinery
  • Notify supervisors of any equipment issues or quality concerns
  • Adhere to all site safety protocols, including PPE and environmental guidelines
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free working area

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to distinguish flint grades
  • Physically capable of manual labour and lifting tasks
  • Dependable, punctual, and committed to safety
  • Comfortable working independently and within a small team
  • Must supply own safety boots and suitable outdoor clothing

Preferred Experience

  • Background in quarrying, aggregates, or material handling
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems or conveyor operations
  • Valid forklift certification (counterbalance or telehandler)

Working Environment

  • Outdoor and semi-sheltered workspaces
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and changing weather conditions
  • PPE provided after probation; safety footwear required during trial period
  • Occasional overtime based on production needs
