Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom SMMT Industry Forum Full time

We are seeking a dynamic
Sales and Marketing Assistant Manager
to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will lead inbound conversion, support targeted outbound activities, and elevate our Publications as a strategic revenue stream. You'll work closely with sales and marketing, and commercial operations to maximise pipeline quality, conversion, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales

  • Lead the conversion of inbound enquiries into qualified opportunities and revenue.
  • Own management of all online enquiries and the lead‑generation to sales conversion journey for Open and Closed training.
  • Support targeted outbound (re‑engage cold prospects/proposals; surface cross‑sell between services).
  • Use Salesforce/HubSpot data to optimise the funnel and inform prioritisation.

Marketing & Communications

  • Shape integrated campaigns and thought leadership that increase visibility and directly support pipeline growth.
  • Develop social and newsletter communications that build authority and engagement.
  • Use data and experimentation to refine channels, messaging, and ROI.
  • Collaborate with our agency to define the paid and organic strategy and continuously optimise channel mix, creative, targeting and measurement.

Publications

  • Own Publications as a growth line, protect service levels and grow beyond new releases through cross‑sell, bundles and promotions.
  • Ensure a reliable customer experience (service standards, on‑time fulfilment expectations, proactive issue‑prevention).
  • Surface insights on demand, pricing, and product gaps to inform the publications roadmap.

Commercial Operations & Continuity

  • Maintain pipeline hygiene and forecasting in Salesforce. Contribute reliable forecast data beyond Closed‑Won to support forecasting
  • Oversee contract progression and PO status with Operations and Finance (visibility, escalation of blockers, on time progression).
  • Provide cover and support for colleagues within Sales & Marketing and Operations during leave/high‑demand periods to ensure continuity.
  • Champion information governance on share point (accurate naming, version control, findability).
  • Act (or train to act) as First Aider and Fire Marshal.

MAIN DUTIES INCLUDE:

Sales

  • Respond to inbound swiftly with tailored value propositions. Progress opportunities to close with clear next steps and timelines.
  • Re‑engage lapsed leads/proposals through structured cadences; quantify and report reactivation wins.
  • Develop compelling proposals and commercial offers; support bids as required.
  • Identify cross‑sell opportunities (e.g. between publications and courses; training and consultancy).

Marketing & Communications

  • Plan and ship campaign content across paid/owned/earned channels; align to priority sectors and offers.
  • Coordinate thought leadership with SMEs; ensure outputs reinforce positioning and generate demand.
  • Track campaign performance; run test‑and‑learn to improve conversion and CAC/LTV.

Publications

  • Own the publications pipeline: sales plans, promotional calendar, and cross‑sell routes.
  • Monitor service levels and customer feedback to promote repeat purchase.
  • Provide monthly insights on run‑rates, margin, and opportunities to the Sales & Marketing Manager.

Commercial Operations & Continuity

  • Keep Salesforce/HubSpot accurate and current (stages, dates, values); deliver inputs for the finance team
  • Monitor contract and PO progression with Operations/Finance; flag risks early and drive resolution.
  • Ensure documents and assets are stored to shared‑drive standards for easy access by Operations and Finance.
  • Provide cover as agreed for Sales/Marketing colleagues and the Operations team to maintain seamless operations.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 3–5 years in a growth-oriented sales/marketing role with inbound conversion and pipeline ownership.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Data-literate with CRM (Salesforce/HubSpot experience preferred), funnel metrics, and forecasting.

Preferred

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field
  • Familiarity with the automotive industry

Training and Development

No matter your experience or background, you'll get dedicated support when you join. With an induction and the business's support, you'll quickly get to grips with the role and have access to help and guidance whenever you need it. So you won't be on your own – you'll be a part of a community dedicated to your development.

Rewards and Benefits

  • 25 Days Annual Leave and additional days for public and privileged holidays.
  • Opportunities to be recognised through our employee recognition scheme
  • Opportunities to hybrid working, subject to business needs
  • Excellent pension scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Parental and adoption leave

Culture and Working Environment

As part of our team, you'll discover an inclusive workplace that's welcoming, supportive and encouraging. You'll be part of an organisation where people want to support one another and make a difference. Aside from fostering an open culture, we've got a range of growing affinity groups. For example:

  • Ethnic Minority and gender equality networks
  • Groups supporting wellbeing, mental health, neurodiversity and disability
  • Women's and Men's Networks
  • Faith/No Faith communities for staff to come together

You'll also find a variety of social groups to help you settle in and connect with people with similar interests.
