Role Overview
Thirteen Group is on the lookout for a Technical Manager to join our Repairs team. You will lead a specialist surveying and technical team, ensuring accurate diagnosis of complex defects (structural movement, damp, mould and disrepair), deliver high-quality inspections and surveys, and drive operational excellence while providing strong leadership to Building Surveyors and Technical Inspectors.

This is a hybrid role, so you'll work from home/onsite and at least one day a week from our fantastic office at Hudson Quay in Middlesbrough. We'll need you to be flexible around business and team need, so you may need to come into the office more frequently when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Surveying and Technical team to deliver accurate, right-first-time diagnosis of structural defects, damp, mould and disrepair
  • Oversee inspections, surveys and quality control, carrying out complex surveys yourself when required
  • Manage team performance against KPIs, budgets and resources, ensuring value for money
  • Monitor and manage the performance of specialist contractors and consultants
  • Provide expert technical advice on building pathology, structural defects and non-destructive testing
  • Act as project manager on structural repair and complex defect schemes

About You

  • HNC or degree-level qualification in Building Surveying (or equivalent professional experience)
  • You'll have a full UK driving licence
  • Extensive experience in building surveying, structural diagnosis, damp, mould, disrepair and emergency hazards within social housing or a similar environment
  • Proven ability to lead and performance-manage technical/surveying teams
  • Strong budget and resource management skills with a focus on cost control and value for money
  • Experience of managing contractor performance, quality and invoicing
  • Excellent customer focus and communication skills
