About the role

The exciting and newly established MSc Sensor Systems Engineering teaches the entire process of sensor system development. The programme consists of taught modules that provide background theory, practical knowledge, and skills (including software design) in designing and analysing sensors, sensor instrumentation, sensor signals, and sensor systems and networks. The aim is to provide students with experience both in the practical issues of device-level design and in system-level performance requirements. A key feature of this programme is a balanced approach to all levels of sensor systems design, and an in-depth treatment of electromagnetic, semiconductor, and MEMS sensors and imaging systems. Students gain both theoretical understanding and practical experience of sensor design and measurements through laboratory work.

What you would be doing

As a Teaching Fellow, you will work with the teaching team of the MSc Sensor Systems Engineering, education support staff, and a team of creative digital learning professionals on the design, development, and delivery of the MSc Sensor Systems Engineering, including programme taught modules, coursework, and laboratory work. You will assist in the supervision of individual research projects, provide pastoral support to students as a personal tutor. You will bring your expertise in micro- and nanofabrication to maintain laboratory facilities relevant to the programme, in particular, a microfabrication cleanroom.

What we are looking for
  • Someone with an appropriate qualification and/or experience in sensor research, ideally in a micro-/nanofabrication context, or a qualified (PhD) practitioner with clear evidence of sustained critical disciplinary engagement in sensors and sensor systems.
  • Evidenced familiarity with, or experience in, at least one of the following: Sensors, Micro/nanofabrication, Sensors Systems, MEMS, Instrumentation, Embedded Systems.
  • A track record of teaching in higher education at the highest standards.
