Northern Soul Grilled Cheese are looking for a Head Chef to lead our flagship Manchester kitchen.

We're a high-output, fast-casual operation – brunch, Lunch, weekend standard plus stadium and events – with a fully freshly prepped menu, grown-up systems and sensible hours. This is for a chef who still loves the buzz, just not the 1am closes and chaos

We are looking for a serious Head chef, with a proven track record to head things up, understands that the accountability for results & standards stops with them. This a hands on role in a small team that requires a person who likes to work and understands the ins and outs of an independent family business.

The role

You'll be the engine of the kitchen:

  • Lead the brigade day-to-day – set the standard, set the pace, own the pass, keep service sharp.
  • Own consistency & hygiene – temps, labelling, cleaning schedules and audits are non-negotiable-This is a big thing for us in the business and not just.a box ticking exercise.
  • Run stock & GP like a pro – ordering, pars, waste control, weekly stocktake. In recent years with the race to fill positions in hospitality, major gaps in this skillset are more commonplace leading to organised and stressed teams.
  • Prep & service planning – no winging it: clear prep lists, smart batch cooking, smooth services. Your team should know what they are doing, day in day out and twice on the weekend.
  • Menu execution & development – keep our core star dishes tight, yet evolve new specials / events menus. Be creative
  • Coach the team – train, support and grow chefs and your KP so you're not doing everything yourself ( we know this can be hard) and we always know the words 'I wasn't in' grinds gears, so taking ownership is big thing

You

You'll suit this if you:

  • Have Head Chef or Strong Sous Chef experience in busy kitchens (fast-casual, street food, QSR, brunch etc).
  • Are obsessed with clean, organised kitchens – walk-ins, boards, everything. You must be an organised person by nature.
  • Stay calm and solutions-focused when it's stacked.
  • Can switch between hands-on on the line and heads-up on the numbers.
  • Lead from the front, showing teams that not only do you set targets and standards but actually participate in the work load. Our core team & senior management are do-ers, we dont have time for too much sideways delegation - good leaders set both expectation & example.
  • Enjoy working and developing working relationships, but we are keen to set clear professional boundaries.
  • Want better hospitality hours without losing the buzz – no late-night finishes

Stadium/events experience is a bonus but not essential – we can teach the stadium part, we can't teach attitude and standards.
