Teacher – The Bridge Campus, The Harbour School

KS3/KS4 Teacher for Short Stay School

Full time, Permanent, MPS/UPS plus SEN allowance

About us:

The Harbour School is a multi-site organisation, with campuses at Bay Campus (including Primary at The Bay), The Bridge Campus, The Lighthouse Campus, and the Vista Campus (including The Horizon Service), all based within the city of Portsmouth. We also have an Outreach Support Team and a Hospital tuition service at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

We support students from Year 5 to Year 11, including those with an EHCP for SEMH, students recovering from the trauma of permanent exclusion, those who unintentionally exclude themselves from education, and Students who cannot access school for medical reasons.

As part of Southern Education Trust, The Harbour School's vision is "Learning together in pursuit of happiness." We work hard to create a space where students learn together to become knowledgeable, self-aware, independent, and happy individuals who make a positive difference, wherever life takes them.

If you're looking for a role that challenges, rewards, and fills you with purpose in a world where every day is unique and every moment counts, this could be the role for you

What you'll be doing

You'll play a key role in helping young people make the most of their time at The Bridge Campus, no matter how short their stay may be – rebuilding confidence, reigniting a love of learning and setting them up for future success. You will:

  • Teach small groups of KS3/KS4 students using creative, flexible approaches that meet individual needs.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that help students achieve academically and grow personally.
  • Use assessment and feedback to track progress and celebrate success.
  • Create a calm, caring and safe classroom where students feel valued and ready to learn.
  • Use positive behaviour strategies and a trauma-informed approach to support emotional wellbeing.
  • Work closely with colleagues, families and outside agencies to give each student the best support possible.
  • Contribute ideas to curriculum development, enrichment activities and whole-school improvement.
  • Be part of a passionate, caring team who believe every young person deserves a fresh start.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable teacher who wants to make a lasting difference. You'll bring:

  • QTS (or equivalent) and experience teaching KS3/KS4.
  • A passion for helping young people who may have struggled in mainstream education.
  • Creativity and flexibility in your teaching – you know one size doesn't fit all.
  • Strong classroom management built on empathy, consistency and positive relationships.
  • An understanding of (or willingness to learn about) SEMH and trauma-informed practice.
  • Great communication skills and a team-player attitude.
  • A growth mindset and a sense of humour – we value both

Why join us?

  • Small class sizes with excellent support staff to help you make a real impact and allow more time for meaningful teaching.
  • The chance to make a huge difference in the lives of young people, one small victory at a time.
  • Comprehensive support, Induction and training package
  • We're a supportive team who'll have your back during the good, the bad, and the "Did that really just happen?" moments.
  • Professional development opportunities because we're all about helping you grow, both as a person and in your ability to juggle six things at once
  • You will be part of an inclusive and collaborative team that, no matter what the challenge may be, are ready to face it head on and are committed to seeing it through.
  • A school that celebrates progress, not just results.
  • A rewarding role where no two days are the same and every day makes a difference
  • The opportunity to develop your career in a School and Delta Education Trust, a growing Trust. Our ethos is encompassed in our vision "Learning together in pursuit of happiness". This means we really care whether students love or hate their learning, so we work hard to create a space where students learn together to become knowledgeable, self-aware, independent and happy people who make a positive difference, wherever life takes them.

Visits to the school are welcomed, please contact Bonny Keogh on to arrange an appointment.
