Job introduction

Are you looking for a varied and interesting Health and Safety role working across a range of disciplines within the Council's Parks and seafront sections?

With input from technical experts you would be updating, reorganising, and checking health and auditing safety procedures within the department. The role is very varied with tasks in the teams you'll be working with ranging from managing sheep and felling trees to general office work to managing a very popular seafront and will involve site visits both to understand working practices and to audit adherence to safe working procedures.

Fixed term: 12 months

This role is available as a secondment to internal applicants in line with our secondment policy. Before applying, please ensure you have read the Secondment policy to ensure you are eligible to apply. In accordance with the policy, please ensure you have the written approval of your line manager before applying. Evidence of this must be included with your application.

Should you wish to have an informal chat about the job please contact Mark Flynn or Graeme Stimpson on -

About the role

Parks related technical assistance would come from colleagues within the Parks Section and Health and Safety from our corporate Health and Safety team. The successful candidate would need to be qualified and experienced in the implementation of good health and safety practice, but the Council would provide support and/or training for the specialist technical aspects of the job such as arboriculture.

The post holder will be based in the beautiful award winning Stanmer Park but would need to be able to travel to any of our work sites across the City. A pool vehicle is available or otherwise the Council will reimburse the successful candidate for using their own vehicle.

The post holder will report to the Corporate Health and Safety team Parks but will work closely with the Operations manager.

Please read our Apply for a job at the council pages carefully. They give you all the guidance you need to complete your application as well as information on what will happen after you've submitted your application and at interview.

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and provide answers to some shortlisting questions. Your answers to the shortlisting questions are the most important part of your application as they will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Application form guidance) and Shortlisting questions guidance as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.
