School of Popular Music (SOPM) in Guernsey is looking for a talented Guitar Tutor to join our close-knit, creative team.

About SOPM

SOPM is the Channel Islands' leading modern music school, offering lessons, workshops, and performance opportunities for all ages and abilities. Our mission: Music for Everyone.

You'll teach mostly one-to-one lessons, with group classes and band workshops at our modern Delancey campus and in local schools. From first riffs to stage-ready solos, you'll help students progress, perform, and fall in love with their instrument.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging 1:1 and small-group guitar lessons
  • Support students through graded exams (RSL, Trinity, etc.)
  • Lead and assist band workshops and live performance projects
  • Plan lessons, track progress, and communicate clearly with parents and learners
  • Contribute to SOPM's collaborative and creative team culture

Ideal Qualifications

Must-have

  • Confident teaching one-to-one and small-group lessons
  • Proficiency to Grade 8 (or equivalent) in guitar
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • Comfortable across modern styles (rock, pop, acoustic, indie, etc.)
  • Right to work in Guernsey (relocation support available)
  • Willing to complete an enhanced background check

Preferred

  • Experience as a performing musician or guitar tutor
  • Ability to teach advanced techniques (lead, rhythm, improvisation)
  • Experience leading band workshops or ensembles
  • Basic DAW/recording literacy (Logic, GarageBand, etc.)
  • Collaborative, student-centred approach
