Job Title: Field Engineer

Salary: £33,000 to £35,000 per annum dependant on experience

Location: Field Based

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week Mondays to Saturday 08:00 to 20:00, and such additional hours as are necessary for the proper performance of your duties

The Role:

As a Field Engineer, you'll install and maintain FTTP connections for residential and business customers using underground and overhead methods on the BT PIA network. You'll be responsible for fault finding, upgrades, and general maintenance across the access, distribution, and core networks—always with a safety-first mindset and a commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Conducting OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) testing and fault tracing as an essential part of diagnostics and network assurance.

About You:

You'll bring strong customer-facing skills, a high standard of work, and hands-on experience with FTTP installations, fibre splicing, CAT 5/6 cabling, and fault finding across GPON, XGSPON, and CWDM networks—confident working at heights, in confined spaces, and with telecoms civils, while maintaining safety, accuracy, and timely data capture.

Essential:

  • Full UK driver's licence
  • SA001 – Safety Overhead (including joint user poles)
  • SA002 – Safety Underground
  • S7 & S8 PIA – Cable Installation (Underground & Overhead)
  • NRSWA accreditation
  • OTDR testing and fault tracing experience
  • IPAF certification
  • DBS certification or willingness to obtain
  • Flexibility during high volumes of work

Desired:

  • IPAF MEWP 1B licence
  • Confined Space training
  • Ability to read and interpret GIS designs
  • Knowledge of CWDM technologies and architectures
  • Competency in OTDR, IOLM, and power meter testing
  • ECS/CSCS card
