About the role
The Nicolaudie UK office in Brighton is seeking a Junior Embedded Systems Engineer to assist with the design, development and testing of embedded hardware and firmware solutions.
The successful candidate will work alongside the Senior Embedded Systems Engineer on our range of lighting control products, assisting with the design, development and debugging of electronic hardware and embedded software in C for microcontrollers (e.g. ARM Cortex-M). Key responsibilities of the role include supporting prototyping, hardware bring-up, integration, and testing of electronic circuits and systems; contributing to schematic capture, PCB design, and layout using industry-standard EDA tools and developing, running, and documenting test procedures for hardware and firmware. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to technical documentation, participate in code reviews and learn and apply best practices in version control, coding standards and embedded development workflows.
This role would suit someone with a strong technical foundation who is eager to learn and contribute to real-world engineering challenges. Please note: this is a role which allows for up to 2 days working from home, with the rest of the week spent in our central Brighton office.
About you
We're looking for someone who has:

- Ability to read and interpret datasheets and schematics
- Practical experience with hardware fault-finding and debugging (oscilloscope, logic analyser, multimeter)
- Exposure to debugging via SWD/JTAG or similar in-circuit debugging interfaces
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
It would be great if you have the following, but it's not essential:
- Soldering and rework (Throughhole and SMD)
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Knowledge of wireless technologies (BLE, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, LoRa, Thread, proprietary RF)
- Python or other scripting languages for testing/automation
- Experience with unit testing or test-driven development
- Familiarity with Linux environments for software development
- A demonstrated passion for tinkering, building, or experimenting with technology through hobby projects, open-source contributions, or extracurricular activities
