About Studio 29 & Factory 31
Studio 29 & Factory 31 is a UK-based product design and manufacturing company, headquartered in the historic market town of Ross-on-Wye.
We were founded on a simple principle to bridge the gap between design innovation and manufacturing reality. We don't just design new products; we bring them to life efficiently, reliably, and at scale.
Over time, we've built a multi-disciplined team of designers, engineers, and production specialists working across diverse industries. Together, we create disruptive, high-quality products that enhance brands and deliver real value to our clients.
With in-house facilities for electronics design, mechanical design, and assembly, we can rapidly prototype, test, and transition designs into production — all in line with ISO 9001 quality standards.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for a motivated and organised Office Administrator to support our expanding team and operations.
Role Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Embedded Electronics Engineer to support the design and production of our in-house electronic systems and IoT devices.
The role combines embedded firmware development with practical involvement in PCB testing, prototyping, and integration within our production environment.
You'll work closely with our design and manufacturing teams on new product builds — from Raspberry Pi-based control systems to custom PIC and microcontroller boards helping to bring prototypes into scalable production.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and debug embedded C firmware for microcontrollers (PIC, STM32, ESP32, or similar).
- Support development on Raspberry Pi, including GPIO interfacing, serial comms, and peripheral integration.
- Configure and test electronics prototypes, sensors, and communication modules (Bluetooth, LoRa, Wi-Fi, etc.).
- Build and validate small embedded systems and test jigs used in production.
- Assist with production programming, functional testing, and process documentation.
- Maintain code repositories and contribute to hardware/firmware documentation.
- Work with production staff to support SMT builds, kitting, and product validation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of test automation and production firmware.
- Work with Electronics department and take lead from Design manager
Essential Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 3 years experience in similar role.
- Strong experience in embedded C programming and debugging.
- Comfortable working with Raspberry Pi and Linux environments.
- Understanding of electronics fundamentals — schematics, sensors, digital/analogue I/O.
- Familiarity with serial protocols (UART, SPI, I²C).
- Confident reading circuit diagrams and using lab equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, PSU).
- Practical, hands-on approach — comfortable working in both lab and production environments.
- Excellent problem-solving and documentation skills.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of Python for test scripting or automation
- Experience with PCB design tools (KiCad or Altium).
- Familiarity with revision control (Git) and embedded build environments.
- Exposure to OS and Android app development for connected or IoT products
- Interest in IoT, data logging, or environmental sensing systems..
Personal Attributes
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and reliable.
- Self-driven with a willingness to learn and adapt.
- Able to communicate effectively within a small, cross-disciplinary team.
- Enthusiastic about developing real-world hardware solutions from concept to deployment.
Why Join Us
- Join a friendly, growing company working on cutting-edge electronics and product design projects.
- Be part of a hands-on environment where your work has real impact day-to-day.
- Modern, well-equipped workspace with on-site production, design studio, and breakout areas.
- 20 days holiday + bank holidays, increasing with length of service.
- Opportunity to work across full product lifecycle — from prototype to manufacture.
- Supportive and approachable management team with open communication.
- Regular team events and socials, from project launches to summer BBQs.
- Free on-site parking and easy access from Ross-on-Wye and surrounding areas.
- A company culture that values initiative, creativity, and continuous improvement.
