Role Overview:

We are seeking a friendly, approachable, and organized Deputy Nursery Manager to support the Nursery Manager with the day-to-day running of our wonderful nursery. You will need to work opposite shifts to the Nursery Manager, being responsible for either the opening and/or closing of the nursery and providing room-based support. Successful candidates will have a Level 3 or above in Childcare and experience as a Deputy Manager or Senior Practitioner or Room leader within a nursery management team.

Responsible For: Room leaders, Nursery Nurses, Nursery Assistants, Apprentices, Cooks, Cleaners, Students and Volunteers

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Nursery Manager in the effective daily management of the nursery, ensuring all Company Policies, Procedures, Statutory Welfare Requirements, and Ofsted expectations are maintained.
• Be a role model to the staff team, showcasing high-quality practice with children and addressing staff and parent issues as they arise.
• Act as a Designated Safeguarding Person in the absence of the DSL within the setting, dealing with and supporting any issues.
• Work alongside the Nursery Manager to lead the nursery to achieve an Outstanding grading with Ofsted.
• Play an active role in developing and completing a rigorous action plan that supports the nursery's growth and improvement areas.
• Support the future occupancy levels by making appropriate staffing decisions in collaboration with the Nursery Manager.
• Mentor and lead the staff team, promoting continued professional development and employee engagement.
• Promote equality and diversity, and uphold an inclusive practice and equal opportunities policy within the nursery.

Childcare Responsibilities:

• Lead on quality aspects of the nursery, including environments, learning and development, and online Learning Journals.
• Ensure all practitioners have a sound awareness of the Safeguarding Policy and their role in safeguarding children.
• Plan and implement activities that promote children's development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
• Oversee planning and children's developmental records to ensure they reflect individual progress and are up to date.
• Ensure effective communication with staff and families through various means, including newsletters, parents' evenings, and settling-in sessions.
• Support on aspects of inclusive practice, behaviour management, and special educational needs.

Environmental Responsibilities:

• Ensure Health & Safety Policies and Procedures are adhered to, conducting daily checks and completing risk assessments.
• Maintain a safe and hygienic environment for children, staff, and visitors, raising any maintenance concerns promptly.
• Develop an enabling environment that is child-led, using both indoor and outdoor spaces effectively.

Sustainability and General Responsibilities:

• Understand and support the nursery's financial sustainability, including marketing and managing waiting lists.
• Provide excellent customer service to all visitors.
• Maintain job knowledge through training and professional development.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £12.21-£14.21 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 42 per week
