Support Worker (Temporary Placement – Birmingham)Overview

We are seeking compassionate and reliable Support Workers to assist a valued client in Birmingham. The successful candidates will provide high-quality care and support to individuals within a specialist facility setting.

This is a temporary position ideal for support staff experienced in autism care, complex needs, or learning disability services. The role requires individuals who are patient, attentive, and committed to promoting dignity, safety, and independence at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and daily living support, including assistance with washing, dressing, and mobility.
  • Support clients with autism and complex behavioural needs in line with individual care plans.
  • Implement behavioural management and de-escalation strategies in a calm, safe manner.
  • Assist with medication administration and maintain accurate care and medication records.
  • Encourage and engage clients in social, recreational, and therapeutic activities.
  • Offer companionship and emotional support to individuals across a range of abilities.
  • Promote independence and positive behaviour, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment, following health and safety standards.
  • Report any changes in health, mood, or behaviour promptly to senior staff.
  • Collaborate with nurses, carers, and multidisciplinary professionals to ensure continuity of care.

Essential Skills and Requirements

  • Previous experience in autism care, learning disability, or challenging behaviour support is highly desirable.
  • Mandatory training must be current (e.g. Moving & Handling, Infection Control, Safeguarding, First Aid, Medication).
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training required prior to completing MAPA (Managing Actual or Potential Aggression).
  • Sound knowledge of positive behavioural support (PBS) and de-escalation techniques.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a professional and empathetic approach.
  • Physically capable of supporting clients with mobility and manual handling when required.
  • Valid UK driving licence preferred.
  • Enhanced DBS and Right to Work documentation required before starting.

  • Contract: Temporary (with possibility of ongoing placements)
  • Hours: Flexible shifts available (days, nights, weekends)
  • Pay: Competitive hourly rate (dependent on experience and training)
