Our Team is looking for a potential candidate that can meet the following specification for the job role:

Back-End Developer

Core Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance UCKG Connect, a central authentication & permissions hub using Google OAuth.
  • Develop and improve existing apps (PrayerBook, CBC system) with new features (reports, data exports, etc.).
  • Debug, optimize, and fix issues to push on live production systems.
  • Build new applications that integrate with UCKG Connect's auth/permission system.
  • Ensure scalability and security across all applications.

Technical Requirements (Must-Have)Back-End & Database:

  • (backend logic, API development)
  • Google OAuth Integration (authentication flow, permission handling)
  • Relational Databases (PostgreSQL, MariaDB – schema design, queries, optimizations)
  • RESTful APIs (consuming/designing for UCKG Connect and sub-apps)

Front-End Collaboration:

  • (understanding front-end structure to work with UI components)
  • JavaScript/TypeScript (writing clean, maintainable code)

DevOps & Infrastructure:

  • Docker (knowledge of containerization, local/dev)
  • Git (version control, collaborative workflows)

Problem-Solving & Maintenance:

  • Debugging live systems (error tracking, logging, fixing production issues)
  • Working with legacy code (extending existing features safely)

Nice-to-Have (Bonus Skills)

  • Data Export/Reporting Tools (PDF generation, Excel/CSV exports)
  • Performance Optimization (caching with Redis, query tuning)
  • Testing (Jest, Mocha, or similar for backend/frontend tests)
  • Basic Cloud Knowledge (AWS/Azure deployments, serverless functions)
  • Security Best Practices (JWT validation, rate limiting, data encryption)

Soft Skills

  • Analytical mindset – ability to diagnose bugs and propose solutions.
  • Self-motivated – can work independently on existing systems.
  • Communication – explains technical trade-offs to non-developers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £25,500.00-£27,000.00 per year
