About the Company
Our client is a renowned creative production and construction company, specialising in the design and build of large-scale scenic environments and immersive installations. They are known for delivering exceptional craftsmanship, innovation, and quality across a wide range of creative industries — from live events to film, television, and brand experiences.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Head of Workshop and Logistics to take ownership of workshop operations, resource planning, and logistics — ensuring all projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to an exceptional standard.
The Role
As Head of Workshop and Logistics, you will lead all aspects of workshop operations, overseeing personnel, logistics, compliance, and resource allocation. You'll play a key role in coordinating production schedules, managing material flow, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety across all workshop activity.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who thrives on operational excellence and takes pride in turning creative concepts into expertly executed builds.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day workshop operations, ensuring all production work is delivered on time, safely, and within budget.
- Collaborate with other department heads (Carpentry, Scenic, Metalwork) and Project Managers to align schedules, resources, and space planning.
- Oversee logistics for materials, vehicles, and storage — including management of van/truck movements and workshop yard organisation.
- Line-manage and support direct reports: Workshop Lead, Facilities & Safety Coordinator, CNC Operator, and Van Driver.
- Plan and manage workshop resource scheduling, including recruitment and onboarding of freelance and permanent team members.
- Maintain quality control standards through final sign-offs and pre-fit approvals.
- Ensure all workshop health & safety policies and compliance requirements are strictly followed.
- Coordinate ordering, stock control, and consumables management to maintain efficient material supply.
- Proactively identify workflow bottlenecks and communicate risks or capacity issues to senior management.
- About You
- We're looking for a proactive and organised workshop professional with strong leadership and communication skills. You'll have experience managing workshop or production facilities within a creative, construction, or event environment — and a proven ability to deliver results under pressure.
Essential Requirements
:
- Proven experience managing workshop or production operations.
- Strong organisational and people management skills.
- Experience in logistics coordination and resource planning.
- Excellent understanding of workshop health & safety procedures.
- Confident communicator, able to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.
- Full UK driving license.
- Background in scenic construction, theatre, events, or creative fabrication.
- Experience with CNC operations and materials management.
