Omma is a UK-based ag-tech company developing decentralised, on-farm systems for rearing beneficial insects used in biological control. Our AI-guided rearing units enable growers to produce their own natural predators on-site, reducing pesticide use and improving crop health and resilience. We work closely with leading horticulture farms across the UK to build a more sustainable and regenerative food system.

We are seeking a Head of Entomology
to lead Omma's insect rearing and research operations. The successful candidate will oversee production of beneficial insects across both our London HQ and partner farm sites, improve existing rearing protocols, and design systems for new species. This role bridges applied entomology with cutting-edge technology, working closely with our engineering and AI teams to test, calibrate, and refine our smart rearing devices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead rearing operations for beneficial insects at Omma HQ and on-farm facilities
  • Optimise existing protocols for
    Orius
    and
    Chrysoperla carnea
  • Design rearing protocols for new species and assess which to commercialise next
  • Conduct experiments to improve production efficiency and insect quality
  • Collaborate with our tech team to test and calibrate AI-driven devices
  • Travel to farms across the South and East to oversee operations and training

Requirements

  • Proven experience rearing
    Orius
    and
    Chrysoperla
    species
  • Background in rearing beneficial insects for pest biocontrol
  • Strong practical and experimental entomology skills
  • Willingness to travel across farm sites (South & East England)
  • UK driving licence required

Desirable

  • Experience scaling insect rearing systems
  • Knowledge of automated monitoring or data collection tools
  • MSc or PhD in Entomology, Biological Sciences, or related field
