Volunteer Youth Support Worker

The trustees of the Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre are looking for volunteers to support our Youth Work Coordinator with weekly 3 hour youth sessions. The sessions comprise 2 hour youth work with half hour set up beforehand and half hour to clear up/review afterwards. Ideally we are looking for volunteers to support on a weekly basis however there is flexibility.
Purpose of Role:
To support the delivery of quality youth work sessions on behalf of RSYC Youth Service part of Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre Charity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with and be inclusive of all young people, actively respecting their diverse needs and lived experiences. Actively support youth work teams to achieve local team targets and ambitions.
- Build positive relationships with young people. Contribute to the design and delivery of youth work programmes with support.
- Be kind, work in an anti-oppressive way, demonstrating RSYC Youth Service and Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre Charity values in all that you do. Support and deliver individual activities in line with teams programme offer.

Skill Set and Specification:
Training and Qualification
- Willingness to undertake essential training for the post inline of agreement of Line Manager - Essential
Education
- Non youth work qualifications that can be utilised to enhance the curriculum offer (examples: outdoor education, the Arts, design, music, cooking, social and health care) - Desirable
Experience
- A commitment to learning to work with young people and developing an understanding of the issues they face - Essential
- Experience or motivation of working with teenagers, families or communities in either formal or non-formal settings - Desirable
Working with others
- Commitment to working as part of a team, within the guidelines and expectations of the organisation - Essential
- Working as part of a team. With the ability to support and challenge coworkers in supportive ways that nurture and encourage mutual growth and development - Desirable
- Discretion and confidentiality - Desirable
Practical Skills
- Willingness to work to Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre and RSYC Youth Service Health and Safety, Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures (training provided) - Essential
- Willingness to learn how to challenge young people's negative attitudes and behaviours supportively but effectively - Essential
- Keen to learn and develop through regular support from Youth Workers - Essential
- Skills you would be able to share with young people for example: Cooking, art and craft, sports, music, life skills and Digital/IT/Tech Skills or Knowledge - Desirable
Communications and Personal qualities
- Willingness to work to Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre and RSYC Youth Service values and commitment to CPD:
