About Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre
The Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre (RSYC) is a registered charity established in 1977 to provide facilities, services and supportive spaces for children, young people, and community groups. Our purpose-built centre on Coly Road, Colyton is home to Colyton Caterpillars Pre-School, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers groups, and—since 2025—a revitalised youth service led by our Youth Work Coordinator.
We currently run youth club sessions at Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre on a weekly basis during term time and run youth sessions and trips during school holidays.
About the Role
We are now looking for Youth Support Worker to join our team to help us to deliver a safe, inclusive and inspiring youth service in Colyton at Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre
Youth Support Workers play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, engaging and inclusive youth work sessions. This includes centre-based work, project youth work and street-based/detached youth work.
You will help create safe, welcoming environments, build positive relationships with young people, and support them in their personal, social and emotional development. You will also contribute to planning, evaluation, events, and youth-led activities.
Key Responsibilities
Working with Young People
- Contribute to planning and delivery of centre-based, project and street-based youth work sessions.
- Build positive, respectful and inclusive relationships with young people.
- Support young people to participate in planning, delivering and evaluating their local youth service.
- Help maintain a safe, fun, clean and welcoming youth centre environment.
- Deliver needs-led educational activities that inspire, challenge and support young people.
- Identify early signs of vulnerability and support young people through key transitions (e.g., school moves).
- Actively promote open-access youth work and support the recruitment of young volunteers.
- Support young people with diverse needs, lived experiences and protected characteristics.
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with the Youth Work Coordinator and wider team to meet organisational goals.
- Engage positively with parents, carers, schools, partners and other agencies.
- Share ideas, embrace new approaches, and contribute to a positive team culture.
Health, Safety & Safeguarding
- Undertake routine health and safety tasks and support food hygiene procedures.
- Work to RSYC safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
- Maintain accurate records, reporting and administration as required.
Organisation & Values
- Promote and uphold RSYC's values, policies and practice standards.
- Engage in continuous learning, attend required training and reflect on your own development.
- Support fundraising activities and community events.
- Be flexible, dynamic and responsive to the needs of the organisation and local young people.
Person Specification
Essential
- Commitment to mandatory training and willingness to work toward a Level 2/3 Youth Work qualification.
- Literacy and numeracy skills appropriate for the role.
- Experience or strong motivation to work with teenagers, families or communities OR a clear understanding of issues facing young people.
- Ability to work as part of a team with discretion, empathy and professionalism.
- High standards of safeguarding, health & safety awareness and record-keeping.
- Creative, solution-focused, resilient and inclusive in approach.
- Ability to work evenings, some weekends and school holiday daytime sessions.
- Access to transport.
Desirable
- Level 2 or 3 in Youth Work.
- Experience in open-access youth work, street-based youth work or community youth projects.
- Experience supporting vulnerable young people or those with protected characteristics.
- Skills in sports, arts, media, music, cooking or other curriculum-enhancing areas.
- Knowledge of early help systems, drugs/alcohol education or relationships education.
- Experience with fundraising or accreditation programmes.
- Minibus driving licence.
