SEMH Teaching Assistant – Alternative Education

Location: Cambridge
Contract: ASAP – July 2026 (Term-Time Only)

Are you an emotionally intelligent, flexible, and calm individual seeking a role supporting vulnerable children as a SEMH Teaching Assistant?

A rapidly expanding Alternative Education Provision in Cambridge is seeking a graduate to join their team as a SEMH Teaching Assistant, working with students who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, Autism, trauma-related difficulties, and behavioural challenges.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups of up to 4 students, helping them to engage with learning and develop essential life and social skills.

SEMH Teaching Assistant - Key responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism, trauma-related difficulties, and behavioural issues
  • Assisting teachers across a range of subjects and activities
  • Promoting positive behaviour, engagement, and personal growth

This SEMH Teaching Assistant role offers the chance to make a real difference to vulnerable secondary students while gaining invaluable school-based experience.

SEMH Teaching Assistant - We're looking for:

  • A graduate with a degree from a UK University
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH needs (voluntary or paid)
  • Strong emotional intelligence, resilience, and adaptability
  • Commitment from ASAP until July 2026
