Are you a Psychology or Education graduate looking to build a career supporting pupils with behavioural or emotional needs?

This SEMH Teaching Assistant role in Cambridge is an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand experience working with children who need additional support to engage positively in their learning. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will help pupils manage their emotions, regulate behaviour, and develop positive coping strategies.

In this SEMH Teaching Assistant role, you'll work closely with SEN Teachers, Behaviour Mentors, and pastoral staff to provide targeted interventions both inside and outside the classroom. This experience will help you develop strong communication, empathy, and relationship-building skills—essential for future roles in psychology, therapy, or teaching.

The SEMH Teaching Assistant position suits graduates who are patient, proactive, and passionate about inclusion and child development. You'll learn how to de-escalate situations calmly, encourage positive behaviour, and build trusting relationships with pupils.

The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Assist teachers in implementing behaviour support strategies
  • Support pupils' emotional regulation and classroom participation
  • Hours: 08:30–15:30 (term-time only)

We're Looking For:

  • Minimum 2:1 degree in Psychology, Education, or related field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Calm, confident, and patient approach
  • Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to apply
  • Driving would be beneficial
