Are you an experienced qualified train driver with a passion for training and development? Join CrossCountry as a Driver Trainer and play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of train drivers.
In this role you will assist with the development and design of Learning and Development for drivers that meets all industry and company standard requirements, gaining internal and external approval and accreditation as necessary.
You will deliver learning, development and assessment for new entrants to the grade of driver to ensure their full potential is realised.
This training will include initial driver training, traction conversions and core traction training, route learning principles, for operational grades and managers as directed.
You will also complete regular Rules assessments for PQA and qualified drivers to maintain driver competence and reduce skills fade.
Our trainers also have responsibility for line managing trainee drivers during core training (up to point trainee returning to depot for handling), liaising with depot teams to ensure they are advised of delegates progress and any actions necessary to bring them to the required standard.
Responsibilities Include:
Maintain and complete accurate records of training and assessment and all interested parties are advised as necessary.
Monitor, evaluate and review training programmes delivered to ensure they remain current and changes to the Head of Driver Training as appropriate.
Maintain your continued professional personal development to ensure all operational competencies are maintained and enhanced
Experience, Knowledge, Qualifications & Training
Extensive train driving experience:
Having worked as a qualified train driver for a minimum of five years across various routes and conditions is crucial to effectively teach new drivers.
In-depth knowledge of railway regulations:
Thorough understanding of safety regulations, signal interpretations, timetabling, and emergency procedures is essential.
Train type expertise:
Familiarity with the specific operations and features of the train types used in your training area.
Mentorship and coaching skills:
Ability to guide trainees through complex situations, provide constructive feedback, and identify areas for improvement.
Instructional delivery skills:
Effective communication, clear explanation of concepts, and ability to adapt teaching methods based on individual learning styles.
Assessment and evaluation skills:
Hold an A1 Assessors Qualification and have the capability to accurately assess trainee performance and identify areas where further training is needed.
