Child Support Worker – Specialist SEND Education Setting

I'm recruiting for a specialist SEND education setting in Tottenham that works with pupils who have a wide range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning difficulties, sensory processing needs, communication barriers, and social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.

We're looking for a
Child Support Worker
who is compassionate, patient, emotionally resilient, and confident supporting children who require structured routines, consistent adults, and highly personalised care. This role begins on a day-to-day, term-time basis, with the potential to transition into long-term or permanent work.

About the Role:

This is a hands-on, highly involved position working with pupils who need close support to feel safe, regulated, and able to engage in learning. You'll work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, therapists, and other support staff to provide consistent, trauma-informed, and autism-friendly assistance throughout the school day.

Your role will involve helping children manage communication barriers, regulating emotions, navigating sensory needs, and developing crucial life and social skills. The setting is warm, structured, and built around the needs of pupils who rely on strong relationships and predictable routines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 and group-based support for children with a range of complex SEN
  • Assisting pupils with communication using PECS, Makaton, visuals, and modelling
  • Supporting emotional regulation through personalised strategies, sensory tools, and calming routines
  • Helping children navigate challenging behaviour using a positive, non-confrontational, trauma-informed approach
  • Assisting with personal care, mobility, or feeding support where required
  • Supporting structured play, social interaction, and life skills activities
  • Working alongside teachers and therapists to follow tailored plans and interventions
  • Keeping pupils safe, supported, and supervised throughout the school day
  • Providing routine, reassurance, and clear boundaries to help pupils remain regulated
  • Upholding safeguarding standards and maintaining high professionalism at all times
