NFWI Volunteer Co-Lead Archivist – Role Description
Are you passionate about history, textiles, and preserving cultural heritage? Do you have experience in archival work and a drive to lead impactful projects? Or are you an aspiring archivist? If you're eager to play a vital role in archiving significant materials and collaborating with partner organisations, we have an exciting volunteer opportunity for you. We are searching for a dedicated and enthusiastic Volunteer Lead Archivist to oversee a range of projects in partnership with the Women's Library and the NFWI (National Federation of Women's Institutes) and Denman Trust.
NFWI Overview

Role and Responsibilities:
§ Research and record the historical significant, origin, and value of archival materials
§ Coordinate and organise events and program for public sensitisation about collections such as workshops, lectures, exhibition, and classes.
§ Collect, authenticate, and appraise historical documents and archival materials including press releases, campaign materials, and other relevant documents.
§ Preserve objects, documents, and records, and copying films and audio tapes to reliable formats.
§ Collaborate with external organisations to generate funding for the textile archive and promote its significance.
§ Manage historical items and artifacts from the Denman Trust ensuring their preservation, cataloguing, and easy retrieval of information.
§ Develop and implement archival policies and procedures to maintain the integrity of the materials.
§ Establish protocols and public guideline towards accessing and using archive materials.
§ Recruit and lead a team of volunteers, providing guidance, organising training, and support in archival tasks.
§ Collaborate with researchers, historians, and educators to promote the use of the archives for educational and research purposes.
§ Engage in outreach activities to raise awareness of the archives' value and the stories they tell.
Qualifications:
· Degree in history, archival science, library science, or related fields. A certification from academy of archivist is also an added advantage.
· Prior experience in archival work, collection management, or museum studies is essential.
· Strong level of research skill to be able carry out essential research about the origins and history of archival collections
· Strong organisational skills and project management capabilities, with the ability to lead a group of volunteers effectively.
· Excellent communication skills to engage with WI stakeholders and external organisations.
· IT-literate so as to be able to manage data base and computer-based catalogues
· Detail-oriented and committed to maintaining archival standards and practices.

Time Frame:
We value your time and offer flexibility to accommodate your schedule. However, a minimum commitment of 18 months is requested to ensure successful project outcomes.
Location:
This volunteer role can be carried out both on-site and remotely. On-site work will take place at the NFWI Head Office in London, and at times at the Women's Library, while remote tasks can be completed using online collaboration tools and communication platforms.
