**The brief**
The Borough Archivist is a critical role responsible for Kingston History Centre’s archive collections. The Borough Archivist will seek to make the archives of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames accessible and relevant to the widest possible audience. This will in part be achieved by building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, championing archives to demonstrate their importance and value. The Borough Archivist will lead on the forthcoming service accreditation review.
**About the role**
- Lead on the National Archives Archive service accreditation review
- Collection management and care
- Delivering a frontline archive enquiry service to residents researching the collection to support delivery
- Developing and maintaining key relationships within the Council and externally
- Ensuring the collection is developed to represent the diverse communities of Kingston
- Contribute to the ongoing cataloguing of the collections, creating, and enhancing records on the CALM archival and museum database and supervising the work of other staff and volunteers
- Work with relevant RBK colleagues to ensure the long-term security and preservation of born digital archives and provision of access to them using Preservica
- Work with colleagues across Culture & Heritage to develop a programme of vibrant community events activities and exhibitions, generating an income where possible, and ensuring evaluation, data gathering, and performance monitoring takes place to ensure the programme is relevant, needed and improved.

- **Rate**: £183 per day - Umbrella
- **Assignment length**: 3 months
- **Working location**: Based at the History Centre in Guildhall, High Street, Kingston, KT1 1EU
4 day week on a two week pattern
- Week 1: Tuesday - Friday
Week 2: Wednesday - Saturday (including evening shift on Thursday until 7pm)
**Requirements**:
- A postgraduate diploma qualification in Archives and Records Management,
- Experience of using CALM and Preservica
- Post qualification experience in the management of records and archives.
- Experience of working in a Local Authority Archive service
- Direct experience of the National Archives Archive Service Accreditation process.
- Good understanding of best practice in the heritage sector, archives and records management, national developments and research resources relating to archives.
- Knowledge of legislation for archives and records management including Freedom of Information; data protection and copyright legislation.
- Demonstrable good IT skills and experience of cataloguing to international cataloguing standards (such as ISAD(G))
- Demonstrate an excellent approach to customer service and experience at working in a public environment.
**Job Type**: Temporary contract
**Salary**: £183.00 per day
