About BASIC

The
British American Security Information Council (BASIC)

is an independent, non-partisan think tank working to advance global security and nuclear disarmament. Founded in 1987, BASIC brings together policymakers, academics, and civil society leaders to build trust and understanding across political and national divides.

We believe that open dialogue, evidence-based policy, and creative diplomacy are essential to reducing nuclear risks and fostering a safer world. BASIC's work spans research, advocacy, and engagement through our programmes such as the
Emerging Voices Network (EVN)

,
Transatlantic Security

, and
Gender, Youth and Security

initiatives.

  • Serve as a member of any relevant sub-committees (e.g., governance, risk, or audit) as appropriate.
  • Act as an ambassador for BASIC's mission and values.

  • Experience advising on charity, company, or public law matters.
  • Understanding of governance frameworks and fiduciary duties of trustees.
  • Strategic thinker able to balance legal rigour with pragmatic decision-making.

  • Occasional ad hoc support or consultation between meetings.
  • Attendance at BASIC events (optional but encouraged).

Why Join BASIC?

  • Contribute your expertise to an organisation shaping debate on global peace and security.
