Accounts Assistant – Construction | Essex

We're seeking a motivated Accounts Assistant to join a growing construction business based in Essex, delivering high-quality projects across London and the South East. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their finance career within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

The Role

As an Accounts Assistant, you'll support the finance function and ensure the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions. You'll play a key role in maintaining the purchase ledger, reconciling accounts, and assisting with VAT and CIS compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enter and process purchase invoices accurately.
  • Maintain and reconcile the purchase ledger.
  • Manage credit card returns and employee expenses.
  • Perform daily bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and submit CIS returns in line with HMRC regulations.
  • Assist with VAT returns and ensure timely submissions.
  • Match invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to resolve queries.
  • Provide ad hoc support and reporting to the Financial Controller.

Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience in an accounts or finance role (construction industry desirable).
  • Good understanding of purchase ledger processes.
  • Knowledge of CIS and VAT compliance.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (Construct for Sage 200 experience beneficial).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
